Raising ambitions - a policy for Sweden as a world-leading technology nation
To build a strong Sweden for the future, we need stronger competitiveness and growth. Sweden's competitiveness and
our ability to attract long-term investment depends on our ability to harness the opportunities of digitalization.
By embracing technological developments, the whole of society can benefit from the opportunities of digitalization, which
greater inclusion and cohesion, better welfare and efficient institutions. This calls for a new and more ambitious
policy that is results-oriented and benefits the whole of society. It should be based on the following elements:
1. calls for political commitment with higher ambitions for a digitally leading Sweden.
Sweden's digitization policy needs to be clearer and more result-oriented. Sweden cannot meet the societal challenges of our time without fully exploiting the opportunities of digitalization.
Digital policy should promote inclusion for all and an innovative and competitive economy. This requires political commitment and responsibility, and a coherent policy. Digitization policy must be stated in the government declaration. The government must have concrete and ambitious digitization goals. It is not enough just to have goals that say we should be the best in the world at exploiting the opportunities of digitization. We also need and have the opportunity to lead digital development in certain areas and create innovations that strengthen Sweden's development, competitiveness, climate transition and welfare. Political commitment and expertise are also needed throughout the Riksdag and the Government Offices. Take inspiration from Finland
and train politicians and ministries in technology and tech policy to increase their understanding and role in
the ongoing change.
2. a government that takes responsibility - ensure governance
and management that accelerates and supports development.
We need to speed up the digital transformation
and the government needs to take a leadership role so
that digitization issues permeate the daily
work in different policy areas to
quickly identify needs and promote the management of
these. Each minister should have a clear digitization mission in their portfolio. The government needs to ensure that the digitization policy and urgent proposals are actually implemented, that an ongoing analysis of Sweden's challenges is made and proposals for reforms are submitted, and that the digitization policy is followed up and evaluated by an independent body.
